More than 400 industry professionals and guests celebrated beautiful lighting design and honored lighting designers in both the Los Angeles and Orange County areas at the festive 2016 Lumen West Awards banquet. The program was hosted by the Illuminating Engineering Society Los Angeles Section (IESLA) June 25 at the historic theater, The Wiltern. The “Under the Big Top” theme featured clowns, circus acts and splashy carnival photo ops. In addition to spectacular lighting designs, individuals and firms were recognized for their service to section and several scholarships were presented to young lighting and design students.
The Lumen West Awards judges included Pat Salmons, Karina Silva, Seth Ely, Karl Haas, Michael Shrupp, Guy Rojo and David Komonosky (chairperson). The judges for the Orange County awards program were Hiva Kamangar, Jeff Rabbitt, Craig Brauks, Mark Raissen, Leigh Ann Vogel and Mindy Iannello (chairperson). Submissions are judged based on how well each lighting design meets the program criteria; the program is not a competition. All projects submitted are also eligible for international award opportunities in the IES Illumination Awards program.
