This session explores some of the WDD methods by which these noteworthy lighting designs are brought to fruition.

Tom Kowalczuk is a veteran in the lighting industry. Prior to working for Steve Wynn, one of the most influential visionaries in Las Vegas, Tom’s hospitality lighting career began in Atlantic City for one of the most prominent developer on the East Coast at the time. Tom designed the lighting for many famous properties on the strip such as the Mirage Volcano, Treasure Islands Buccaneer Bay, and Bellagio. He also designed the stage lighting for the Spectacular Siegfried and Roy performances. When Steve Wynn decided to build a new Hotel, Tom joined the Wynn lighting team and has successfully designed the lighting for Wynn properties in Las Vegas, Macau, Cotai, and Boston.

Emlyn “G.G.” Altman brings a unique, combined background in lighting, architectural design, sculpture, and 3D visualization to her work at Wynn Design & Development. Her 22+ years of experience covers a diverse range of projects including hospitality, residential, corporate, healthcare, retail, sports facilities, education, government, and large-scale art installations. Emlyn currently serves as Chair for the national Illumination Engineering Society’s (IES) Hospitality Lighting Committee and is also Vice-President / Program Chair for the local Vegas IES Section. In 2006, Emlyn was one of the first recipients of Building Design and Construction magazine’s “40 Under 40” hotshot designers in the country award.

Exploring the role of light in architecture ignited Ellen Kuklinski’s passion for lighting design. The inter-disciplinary blend of art, science, mathematics and psychology helps Ellen with her creative thinking and innovative lighting design solutions. She is on a constant quest to understand light, both natural and artificial. Her areas of interests are in the interpretation of light and how light affects our health and well-being.
