20th Annual Lumen West Awards Gala

The Los Angeles lighting industry turned out in full force at the spiffy, black-tie-optional 20th Annual Lumen West Awards Gala, held June 24th – kicking off with cocktails in the Gold Ballroom at the Biltmore. The 450 attendees then moved to the Crystal Ballroom, and once the honors were bestowed and dinner polished off, they headed back to the Gold Ballroom for the after‑party, featuring a 10‑piece dance band.

The event was co‑chaired by Incoming President of IESLA, Sylvie Tabori of Current Light, and Kristine Paterno of PBQA (Patrick Quigley & Associates). David Komonosky, a Principal at Performance Lighting Systems in Southern California served as the Illumination Awards Chair for the Los Angeles Section, managing the judging process.

Judges included Heith Rogers of Google, Terry Charron of Current Light, Ken Downing of Luceplan, Meghan Howell of eSquared Lighting Design, Michael Schrupp of EXP, Dave Young of ETC, Cy Eaton of Lumenetix, Mindy Iannello of Performance Lighting Systems (and Orange County IES President, and IES District 5 Chairperson).

Entries for each category all hit record-breaking numbers, including over 800 for the Society Level and 66 from Los Angeles, including 27 winners – 6 Awards of Excellence and 21 Awards of Merit. Submissions are judged based on how well each lighting design meets the program criteria; the program is not a competition.
