light_building_lea_headerAfter returning from last week’s impressive Light + Building Event at Messe Frankfurt, I wanted to share some observations and takeaways, and get comments or feedback from any of you that might have attended as well. First of all, this show is massive, covering 2.6 million square feet and 2,589 exhibitors showcasing the latest technologies and solutions across multiple buildings. Here are some of the other takeaways I had from this, my first visit to the show…

  • LED, LED, LED – across the board in all areas of lighting and digital
  • Integrated wall lighting – one cool example from Brick in the Wall
  • Ghost step lighting like those from Sistemalux
  • Linear Lighting – everywhere you turned exhibitors featured and showcased some form of Linear lighting applications
  • On the architectural design side I saw a trend of warming designs incorporating metals, mesh, wood and plastic
  • Outdoor LED innovations by Ligman

Other Observations:

  • Emotional movement with whimsical and mystical LED luminaries featured in many displays offering curvilinear forms of suspended lighting
  • Connected Lighting
  • Internet integration or Internet of Things
  • Smart building/home resources
  • High Performance building operations
  • Smart buildings through advanced Digital Technology

What was your favorite lighting or building application? We’d love to hear from you.
