The Sustainable Revolution in Manufacturing
Seminar 13 - Room A
Thursday, October 22
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
CEU: AIA (1 Learning Unit)

Although much of the focus on sustainable lighting has been energy efficiency, the environmental impacts of manufacturing must be included in the sustainability discussion. Traditional manufacturing follows the "take-make-waste" model which is very different from the way that nature works. The industrial revolution led to one style of manufacturing in the lighting industry - how should the sustainable revolution change our practices? Learning objectives: an overview of sustainable manufacturing philosophy; an understanding of single-attribute product certification programs such as Energy Star, RoHS, and carbon neutral, and; an understanding of multi-attribute certification programs such as Cradle to Cradle and Green Seal.
